Education

My early education was in a British School in Africa (where I was born). While in the pre-school, the teacher observed lack of attention, poor interaction, and less eye contact. These behavioral mannerisms were a cause for concern and visits to specialist counselors who after conducting tests on me concluded that I was a 'slow starter'. Autism, at that time, was probably not a well researched subject.

My parents opted to shift to USA with the hope that a better solution would evolve. Finally at the elementary school in USA, the school staff fearing me to be a potential candidate under the 'autism spectrum', recommended medical attention.

Visits to medical institutions confirmed that I had mild autism traits, but not requiring medical treatment. I progressed gradually and completed high school. Lacking confidence to join a 4-year undergrad university degree, I attended a 2-year Community College and successfully obtained an Associate Degree with Phi Theta Kappa Honors.

Community organizations

With an Associate Degree and Honors, I found employment with multi-special hospitals and doctor's clinics in the USA. The job content involved multi-tasking and customer service interaction, which proved difficult for me, due to my disability. One of my esteemed managers and Dr. Temple Grandin (a famous autism advocate), advised me to seek backend jobs, with particular reference to IT related sectors.

IT managers, advised to seek training for a basic entry level IT employment, with emphasis on software testing. My parents decided to move to India and I joined a renowned Bangalore institute, successfully completed the training with 2 certificates.

With my aunt's help, we found EnAble India, an organization which helped in providing training and skills to enable differently-abled individuals to successfully integrate and work in Corporate Sectors. After completion of training, EnAble India assisted me in finding a job placement at SAP Labs India Pvt. Ltd. as a Quality Associate.

Workplace accommodations

EnAble India introduced me to SAP Labs India Pvt. Ltd. and my work journey started in July 2015 as a Quality Associate. Autism and its related characteristic disorders were not well known to the colleagues and I was assigned a mentor/buddy to assist in bridging any gaps. With the passage of time, I gained confidence and my co-workers helped me immensely to overcome my deficiencies. I received valuable support in understanding and discharging my work content. I was whole-heartedly accepted as a team member in all activities including team meetings, events, lunches, dinners and excursions . I am proud to work for SAP Labs India Pvt. Ltd. and am enjoying my wonderful journey. I will continue to work to the best of my ability with the aim of becoming an invaluable asset.

I love the workplace environment, derive immense job satisfaction, receive motivation and appreciation from co-workers/managers and I will not trade working for SAP Labs India Pvt. Ltd. for anything else in the world!
