Community organizations

To make sure the Accessible Qatar initiative is what people with disabilities need, and to develop it in a way to serves them best, we have partnered with different local organizations such as the Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind, Qatari Center of Social Cultural for the Deaf, Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs, UNESCO - Doha office, Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, National Tourism Council, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Mada - Qatar Assistive Technology Center, and Shafallah – Integration for the Disabled.

Assistive devices and personal assistance

The Accessible Qatar initiative appointed and receives support from its three ambassadors with different disabilities. Currently Faisal Al-Kooheji representing the visually impaired, Said Al-Marri representing the hearing impaired, and Abdulrahman Al Qassim representing the mobility impaired community. The ambassadors provide guidance and feedback on each and every activity, and evaluate and decide on which initiatives to implement that serves best their community, under the umbrella of Accessible Qatar.

Accessible Qatar initiative requires interaction with the local community, venues owners and management. The majority were very supportive to allow us conduct the accessibility audits. And after sharing the findings and the report, most of them show interest in upgrading their venue to become more accessible and accommodate people with different disabilities.
