Education
In 2014 the social center Equal Opportunities was created for people with hearing impairments to access courses on graphic design, computer literacy, while education on smartphone and computer use, Gps navigation for orientation in space were suggested for people with visual impairments.
Laws, Policies and Institutions
In 2016-2017, the Foundation actively promoted the idea of Kyrgyzstan's ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty on Facilitating Access to Published Works for the Blind and Persons with Visually Impaired or Other Disabilities. The Foundation carried out expert work on consulting relevant government agencies and parliament members and participated in the logistics of the relationship between government agencies and the Secretariat of the Marrakesh Treaty. The treaty’s definition of “accessible format copy” is rather broad and implies any format that provides people with visual impairments and other print disabilities with the same practical and convenient access to print material, including digital format. This achievement allows us to provide alternative digital access to information and books with fewer limitations for persons with visual impairments.
Accessible communication
In 2019, a project “Access for people with visual and hearing disabilities to information on parliamentary activities” was implemented with the support of the UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Within the framework of this project, the accessibility of the parliament’s website for users with visual impairments was monitored, sign language interpretation for the broadcasting of the press service of the parliament was provided, and the accessibility of the parliament building for people with disabilities was monitored.
