I discovered I had Aspergers at the age of 27 (a bit late, if you ask me!). I decided to dramatically change my life. Until then, I had always tried to fit into a box, to be like everyone else. The diagnosis allowed me te be myself, to reconnect with who I truly am. I quit my job and decided to go back to studying : I got my PhD in social psychology in 2016.
I am now a lecturer at INSHEA (Suresnes, France). I have joined an amazing team of researchers and I feel blessed. I am the first openly autistic person in France to study autism.
I think we should spend less time trying to ‘cure’ autism, and more trying to reform our society. Autistic people are not sick, they do not need to be cured. Researchers should encourage an interdisciplinary approach (conducting research in anthropology, sociology and social psychology for instance) instead of almost solely focusing on the symptoms, treatments and causes of autism.
